Shelmaliers lost the Faythe Harriers in extra time in Oulart yesterday. Full time score 2-18 to 3-17.
Shelmaliers met the Faythe Harriers on Saturday last in the semi final of the B Senior Championship. The first half was an even affair with points from Joe Kelly, Eoin Doyle and Tommy Barron keeping us in touch. A foul on forward Dessie Kehoe which seen him transferred to hospital by ambulance resulted in a penalty which Conor Byrne duly sent to the back of the net. A point from Stephen Banville on the cusp of half time seen us go into the break 1 point up. On the resumptions, Stephen Banville goaled in the first two minutes only for Harriers to put two past the defenceless goalie soon after. Both sides traded point for point and whilst we had one shot in injury time to win the game, it went wide. The game ended level and extra time was called for.
Harriers got off the ground quickest in the extra time with a brace of points, but a fight back with great points from Colin Kehoe, Stephen Banville and Tommy Barron, left us level at half time. Teams traded points again and when Conor Walsh pointed in the final minutes of extra time shels looked to be home and dry. However, a last minute goal on the stroke of full time left no time for reply and Shels bowed out of this years B championship.
We extend our best wishes to Des Kehoe and wish him a speedy recovery from his head injury.
Best on the day were David Walsh, Joe Kelly, Conor Byrne and Conor Walsh.
