Over the Water League

Our under 12 Hurlers played their first match in ‘The Over The Water Hurling League’
in Hollymount on Sunday morning last against Faythe Harriers.

In a most entertaining game it was the Harriers who made the brighter start and went into an early 2 point lead. A couple of Conor Hearne frees followed for the Shels before the Harriers scored a goal
against the run of play. Points from Stephen Rossiter and Joe Redmond just before half time left the Shels trailing at half time on a scoreline of 1.04 to 0.04.
The Harriers got the first score of the second half to go into a four point lead. Liam Rockett
was having a great game for the Shels at this stage and it was him who scored two points
without reply to leave the gap at just two points. It was end to end stuff for the last 10 mins
and with the Shels pushing forward to look for the goal they needed it was the Harriers who
broke away with a minute to go to get a goal that left the final score Harriers 2.05 Shels 0.05.
Best for Shels on the day were Aaron O Neill, Cian Manley and Peter Doyle in the backs.
Enda Cloake and Conor Hearne gave as good as they got in midfield while Liam Rockett,
Shane Neville and Joe Redmond were to the fore in the forwards. Nick Whelan and Billy
McCarthy were very good when introduced as subs.
