Minors account for Glynn

In this last qualifier of the group, Shels met Glynn/ Barntown in Hollymount in this back fixture, on Sunday morning last.

Whilst both sides were missing players it was still a game both teams wanted to win. Shels started the stronger and were never really troubled by the visitors. Johnny Campbell with two free’s got us off to a flying start, both teams then traded point for point but slowly and surely Shels edged into the lead. Half time score was 0-8 to 0-5. On the resumption a goal from Ronan Kavanagh and a fine point from Brian Tobin whilst the visitors only managed two points in the same period left the final score 1-9 to 0-7. Noel Mythen pulled off a great save when Glynn goalie Mark Fanning travelled down from his goal to take a penalty.

Best on the day were Johnny Campbell, Shane Griffith, Conor Tobin, Shane Birney and Niall Murphy.

Team: Brian Murphy, Kevin O’Leary, Noel Mythen, Shane Griffith, Stuart Leacy, James Gordon, Conor Tobin, Brian Tobin (0-3), Aidan Cash, Stephen Corrigan, Brian Doyle (0-1), Niall Murphy (0-1), Shane Birney (0-1), Ronan Kavanagh (1-0), Johnny Campbell (0-3,2F).

Subs introduced: Cian Lambe, Paraic O’Leary.

Shels now advance to the semi finals where the likelihood is they will meet Glynn Barntown as St. Annes went down to Rathnure today.
