Seniors lose to Blackwater

jkdmShelmaliers lost their second round match to Blackwater in Wexford Park, on Sunday afternoon.

Shelmaliers forced to make several last minute changes to the team due to injuries were neck and neck with Blackwater until they goaled just before half time. Shels went into the break 4 points down. 0-6 to 1-7.
On the resumption we started the stronger and with points from Benny Barron, Brian Doyle, Tommy Barron and Joe Kelly (f) we went into the lead for the first time when a speculative free from Joe Kelly ended up in the back of the net. Unfortunately from there Blackwater piled on the pressure and ran out winners by 2 points. Final score 1-13 to 1-11.
Best on the day were Decky Murphy who was excellent in goal, Benny Barron, James Gordon, and Andre O’Brien whilst Ciaran O’Shaughnessy was solid when introduced.
Corner back John Kelly had a very strong second half.
Shelmaliers need to beat Glynn/Barntown by six  points in two weeks time to progress any further in the county championships.
