U21 Hurlers retain Co. title

btShelmaliers U21 Hurlers retained their Co. premier title in Patricks Park on Monday evening against Sliabh Bhui Gaels. (Combination of St. Pat’s Askinmore and Kilrush).

The first half was a close affair with Shels playing against the wind. Points from Ronan Kavanagh, and Benny Barron, 2 free’s courtesy of Joe Kelly and a goal by Brian Doyle saw us go into the break only one point down. 1-4 to 1-5.

On the resumption and with the aid of a stong wind we started to get on top. When influential wing back Conor Walsh was dismissed after incurring a second yellow, it seemed the boys dug in even deeper and with goals from Brian Tobin and Ronan Kavanagh together with further points from Joe Kelly, Benny Barron, Conor Byrne and Tommy Barron the game was put out of sight as the opponents only managed 4 points in the entire second half. A good team performance with Conor Byrne, Brain Tobin, Benny Barron, Ronan Kavanagh, Brian Doyle James Gordon and Willie O’Shaughnessy to the fore.
