U16 Hurlers give spirited display

A good spirited performance saw our juvenile hurlers win against a determined Buffers Alley team last Thursday in Hollymount.

Playing into a stiff breeze in the first half the boys, led by Glen Murphy at centre back and Paraic O Leary at full back, weathered early pressure and hard work by our midfield and forwards led to points from play and frees from Craig McCabe and a goal from Sean Byrne put us in a commanding half time lead of 1.05 to 0.06 On the resumption the Alley again piled on the pressure but again strong defending by Stevie Dwyer, Jack Murphy, Eoin O Leary, Niall Tobin and the lively Adam Whitmore in goal kept them at bay. By now the midfield pairing of Captain Dean Corrigan and Neil Rossiter began to dominate and good running by Eoin Fitzgerald, Simon Murphy, Aaron Ryan and substitute Sim Donohoe saw Shels take control of the game. Shane Birney was a constant threat when moved to full forward and his well taken scores in the final quarter saw the lads run out comfortable winners at 1.11 to 0.07. Well done to all concerned.
