Having lost the first round in May, it was important that Shels won this round to keep their championship hopes alive.
The Shels faced a young Glynn-Barntown team who had won the Junior C Championship a year earlier.
Dessie Kehoe, at centre forward got the opening point for the Shels after 1 minute and they should have had a goal after 2 minutes. Glynn opened their scoring after 7 minutes with a point by minor Michael Regan. David Shiggins kept Shels ahead with a pointed free after 12 minutes but Michael Regan created a free to allow Toirleach Leacy level matters with his pointed free. Glynn went ahead on 19 minutes with a pointed 45 but Shels then got two good scores with points from David Kehoe and James Murphy. Glynn then had a man sent off for a second yellow card but still finished strongly with a point after 26 minutes followed by two pointed frees with Brian Tobin and Stephen Cash scoring for the Shels to leave the half time score at 0-6 each.
In the second half Glynn started as they finished the first half with 7 defenders. However, Shels quickly pushed ahead with points from David Shiggins, James Murphy, D.Shiggins (free) and Brian Tobin to leave them 4 points ahead after 9 minutes. Shels then missed a second goal chance but with the very dangerous Glynn forward, Michael Regan, cancelled out by Vinny Parker and spare man David Kenny, Shels continued to push ahead with a point from a 45 by D.Shiggins and a third point from J.Murphy. D.Kenny goaled and substitute Conor Walsh scored a second goal to leave it at 2-6 without reply after 23 minutes. Michael Regan did manage to score a goal for Glynn but it was all Shels in this second period.
Final score – Shels 2-12, Glynn-Barntown 1-6.
