Our senior footballers met Adamstown last Monday 15th June, away and lost 2-9 to 0-7. After last year’s county quarter final, which went to a replay, a good contest was expected here.
Adamstown attacked strongly in the first ten minutes and were very assured in their passing. Shels, on the other hand, were wasting a lot of ball and were failing to supply good ball to their forwards. A slip in the goal by Padraig Mc Mahon, during this opening period, gave Adamstown the simplest of goals. However, Shels recovered well with points by Derek Walsh after 14 minutes, James Murphy after 16 minutes and Walsh again after 17 minutes. Shels were now dominant and with points from Brian Malone and Joe Kelly they were well in control. However, disaster struck when a mis-kicked point effort hit the post and ended up in the net. Adamstown now replied with another point to leave the half-time score at 2-4 to 0-5
In the second half Adamstown defended well making it very difficult to score. Their defensive method kept this half very low scoring with 0-3 for Adamstown to 0-2 for Shels. Derek Walsh had a good effort late in the half, but his shot hit the post. Best on the night were senior debut player Aidan Cash & Andre O’Brien
Final score Adamstown 2-9, Shels 0-7.
