U14 Hurling

The Shelmalier under 14 hurlers traveled to Gorey on Thursday night last in the first round of the championship and after a trilling encounter the Gorey side came out on top on a score line of 4-6 to 2-6.

The Shelmaliers controlled the early exchanges with some fine work from Kevin O Connor, Glen Malone and Arnie Murphy for the visitors, but as the game wore on the Gorey attack began to test the Shels defence and they were rewarded with two outstanding goals before half time. Gorey continued to press at the start of the second half and held their lead over the Shelmaliers. The last 20 minutes of the game saw the Shelmaliers begin a mini revival when Brian Kehoe, Conor Forde, Johnny Forde and Graham Staples showed the true Shelmalier determined style, but unfortunately the team’s efforts were too late to change the result.
