Minor Hurlers off to good start

Our Minor Hurlers, defending their record winning three in row county titles, got off to a great start last Wednesday evening in Hollymount against a strong Oulart/The Ballagh side. Final score 1-17 to 1-11.

Playing against a fresh breeze they were first off the mark with a free courtesy of Benny Barron., further scores from Johnny Campbell, Brian Murphy and Benny Barron (3) weren’t enough to combat a fine opening performance from the opposition. Despite a strong full back line, Shelmaliers went into the break 2 points down.
On the resumption, Shels got into the game quicker than the opposition and with points from Feargal Hynes, Brian Tobin, and Benny Barron; it appeared that Kevin O’Leary had put the game clear ahead with a superbly taken goal only to see Oulart quickly score a goal on the rebound. Score at this stage was level 1-11 each. At this point the Shels dug deep and played the controlled accurate passing game they are renowned for and with Brian Doyle (2), Feargal Hynes, Kevin O’Leary, Benny Barron (2) all pointing they ran out easy winners in the end. 1-17 to 1-11
