Ref forced to abandon game

mkAt the Junior A Semi Final in Taghmon, between Shelmaliers and St. Fintans, referee Lar Doyle had no option but to abandon the game in the 48th minute, due to the torrential rain.

Weather conditions were bad from the start, but on the cusp of half time, they deteriorated considerably. There were many who thought the second half would not commence at all. Shels playing against the wind in the first half, could only manage a single point from a free, courtesy of John Redmond in the 9th minute, whilst St. Fintans scored 7 points in the same period, five from free's.

Shels started the brighter in the 2nd half and hit three points (all free's) without reply. In the 48th minute as we conceded another free which was converted to leave the score at 0-8 to 0-4 in favour of St. Fintans, the referee took the decision to abandon the game.

Best on the day were Captain Mick Kelly, Darren Malone, Fergie Parker, Colm Tynan and Jamie Horan.
