Colin on fire for Senior Footballers

crThe seniors had a great victory over Duffry Rovers in Bellefield on Sunday afternoon on a scoreline 0-18 to 0-7.
Colin Redmond was on fire all day and contributed 10 points in total, 9 from free’s. Others to score were Derek Walsh 0-3, Aidan Murphy 0-2, Stephen Banville 0-2, and Gareth Dunne 0-1. Goal keeper, Paudie McMahon made a fantastic save in the 14th minute when Duffry were only 2 points behind and his skills were called on again 5 minutes later where he denied the Duffry yet again. Over all it was a self assured performance from the over the water men as they made it three wins from three matches in their first year in the senior ranks, therefore going through to the quarter finals with ease.

First half
Shels were looking for a third successive win to top this group but with Duffry Rovers behind on score difference and points, they needed to win this game by 10 points to qualify for the quarter final. Duffry Rovers decided that goals would be the best way to achieve this and went for 4 goals in the opening 10 minutes. While their first shot by David Armstrong went over for a controversial point, their next 3 attempts were well saved by Padraig McMahon who gave an impressive display in goal. Colin Redmond pointed from a free for the Shels and then quickly added another from play. Aidan Murphy and Stephen Banville failed on their attempts on goal while David Armstrong again scored from play and Jim O’Neill raced forward from defence to score a good point for ‘The Duffry’. Colin Redmond slotted over two good frees before Brian Clince scored a ’45 for ‘The Duffry’ to leave the score at 0-4 each after 15 minutes. But from here until half time it was all the Shels. With the Shels now on top at mid-field and in attack Aidan Murphy scored 0-2 sandwiched between 3 good Colin Redmond points and Stephen Banville rounded off the half with a good point from play to leave the half time score at 0-10 to 0-4.
Second Half
With no score from two early attacks by the Shels, Derek Walsh and Garret Dunne got the Shels going again with two good scores from play. Duffry replied with a pointed free by Brian Clince but after that the Shels really opened up and dominated affairs with 0-3 from Colin Redmond (frees), 0-2 Derek Walsh and 0-1 Stephen Banville. ‘The Duffry’ managed a further 2 points, but really they were over run in the second half and the Shels were deserving winners.
