Juveniles through to Co. Final

The Shelmalier Juvenile football team continued their un-beaten run in rain lashed Hollymount on Saturday morning last when they defeated a strong Starlights team in the County Semi final on a scoreline of 2-8 to 3 pts. They now face St Annes in the final.

Weather conditions were atrocious but the pitch was in very good condition for this semi-final.The Shels boys faced the strong wind in the first half and started brightly and after just five minutes were rewarded when a Conor Tobin shot was fumbled into the net by the goalkeeper. The Enniscorthy boys however regrouped and started to play some really good football. Despite the now torrential rain both teams were giving it their all and with Feargal Hynes playing a deep role really well the Shels boys led at half time by 1-2 to 2pts. The wind unfortunatly for us, was now almost gone completley and our boys had to dig deep to gain the upper hand. Thanks to great accuracy from play by all the forwards and some great free taking from Glen Murphy, the Shane Griffith led home team were now well on top and when Feargal Hynes shot to the net from a tight angle in the 45th minute there was only going to be one winner. With the rain now easing our boys started to show just how good they really are and finished out the game in style with some great passing moves and accurate shooting.Great credit is due to this team for giving such a classy display in almost impossible conditions and for showing some real mental strength after the disappointment of their hurling defeat the week before. Roll on the County Final and well done to all.
