The lads did us proud

stephen banville

Shels were well represented in
Croke Park on Sunday,
Stephen Banville, Ardcavan
proving his consistency, scored 1-1
to aid Wexford’s senior hurling
team win over Dublin and to put
them into the Leinster final, where
they meet Kilkenny.
Indeed Stephen was a force to be
reckoned with all day and set up
many other scores also.
Wexford held strong despite
finishing with only 14 men.

Brian Malone, Oldtown and David Walsh Poulsac both played significant parts in the Senior Footballers win over Laois to help Wexford reach the Leinster final for first time since 1956. Brian starting at corner back was profiled on the Sunday game with two other Wexford greats, Matty Forde and Redmond Barry. Indeed Brian was a candidate for man of the match as the two corner backs were in superb form all day. David Walsh, unlucky not to be starting, specially after his sterling performance in the recent Meath game, was introduced in the second half and was not found wanting. His tight marking keeping his man very quiet. Wexford will meet either Dublin or Westmeath in the Leinster final.
Joe Kelly, Screen captained the Wexford minor team which drew with Dublin, James Gordon, Curracloe  is also on the panel. The replay will be in Wexford Park this Saturday 28th June at 17.30 hrs. We wish them the best of luck for the replay.
