Shelmaliers boys compete to the very end.
The Shelmalier under 14 hurlers traveled to Oulart on Wednesday evening last and took on the local side in the third round of the under 14 hurling championship. The Shelmalier side stated brightly with the half back line of Eoghan Nolan, Kevin Byrne and Conor Forde showing some fine hurling, however, Oulart powered forward after 5 minutes to register a fine close in goal. The Shels boys quickly responded with two fine points in quick succession following great play from mid fielders Graham Staples and Eoghan Fitzgerald and forwards Kevin O Connor, Aaron Ryan, Evan Deveraux and Neil Rossiter. The Oulart boys finished the stronger and went in at half time with a slender lead. The first 15 minutes of the second half belong to Oulart despite the best efforts of all the Shelmalier players with the full back line of Damian Drennan, James Cash and Eoin O Leary defending in fine style. As the game progressed the Shelmaliers regained their grasp to the match with Neil firing in a point and a goal. Team captain Eoghan Fitzgerald led by example from mid field scoring two excellent points in the closing 10 minutes.
