The Shels U16 football team, continued on their winning ways with a 4-10 to 3-6 victory over a strong St Annes team in Hollymount Sunday 11th May.
Despite the 7 point winning margin this game was close and very competitive all through. The Shels led by just a single point at half time 1-4.4 to 1-3. The home team raced into an early 1-2 to no score lead thanks to points by Glen Murphy and Fergal Hynes and a James Gordon goal. However the Shels eased off and St Annes led by Diarmuid O Keefe scored 1-3 without reply and only thanks to points by Stephen Corrigan and a Glen Murphy free did the Shels go in at half time a point up.
The second half started with the Shels on top, and thanks to some fine scores, particularly goals from Conor Tobin and James Gordon, it looked like they would run out easy winners when they led by 9 points. But it was again St Annes who came back strongly and with some fine scores and one soft goal, which was a deflected shot that ended up in the corner of the Shels net, the margin, was down to 5 points. But this Shels team are made of strong stuff and ended the game well with great points from Niall Tobin and Brian Murphy to run out good winners by 7 points. Well done boys on another fine display, with AJ Lehane strong in defence.
