UNDER 14 DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL APRIL 16TH 2008
Strong Shels overcome game Gusserane.
The in depth strength of Shelmaliers Under 14 football was very much in evidence in Hollymount on April 16th when the slick outfit powered to victory over a game Gusserane team .
The lethal Shels forward line were early in action and Neal Rossiter, Colin Cleary, Graham Staples and Conor Forde all scored neat goals in a rampant first half performance. Kevin O’Connor and John Forde were also instrumental in the early forays on the Gusserane goal and pacy Stephen Maguire scored a couple of superb points.
The Shels midfield of Graham Staples and James Cash were outstanding and any attacks on the Shels rearguard were well repelled by a full back line of Simon Donohoe and teak tough defenders Eoghan O’Leary and Adam Whitmore with the inspirational Sean Byrne in the goal..
Many of the Shels attacks began in a stylish half back line with Eoghan Fitzgerald commanding at centre back and the wing merchants Kevin Byrne and Eoghan Nolan powering up and down the field.
Shels added further goals in the 2nd half from Kevin O’Connor, James Cash and from speedster Conor Davison.
During the 2nd half the Donnelly brother Ryan and Tommy shored up the Shels defence with Damien Drennan also giving a strong performance. Aaron Ryan was also a tower of strength and in the attack Gavin Potter, and Evan Devereux made telling contributions. Kevin Kehoe was lively when introduced and the point of the match was scored by popular Robbie Hynes on the way to a convincing victory of 9-14 to 3-8.
