St Ibars took on Ferns in the third round of the under 12 league on Monday last, 28th April in Hollymount.
The local girls were anxious to get some points from this match and started impressively. The forward line was unlucky with some early shots but half way through the first half they netted their first goal. Rachel Wall sent in a lovely ball from the mid field and Deverla Potter did well to connect to the moving ball and sent it to the back of the net. St Ibars tired hard to add to the score line but Ferns defence was strong. Ferns were next to score with a point. However, this was to be their only score as the St Ibars defence cleared their lines well and sent a good supply of ball into the forward line. Just before half time St Ibars scored their second goal. This time Roisin Tobin delivered the ball into the square and Jessica Harding was first to connect. This left the half time score at St Ibars 2-0, Ferns 0-1.
The second half was a close affair and both teams had some good shots on goal. However the St Ibars girls showed great commitment with some excellent team play and went on to win the match. Final score St Ibars 2-0, Ferns 0-1.
