Shels boys in Feile Peil.

Some great football played by our under 14s.

Feile Peil 2008.

The group stages of this years Feile Peil took place in Hollymount last weekend. The home team got off to a great start with a convincing 3-8 to 0-3 victory over visitors Glynn/Barntown. Kevin O Connor got the black and amber side off to an early start with a point inside five minutes, further scores from John Forde, Colin Cleary, Evan Deveraux, Eoin Nolan, Stephen McGuire, saw their side go in leading by 2-7 to 0-1. A second point from Stephen McGuire and a great goal from Colin Cleary gave the Shels a great start in the competition.

The second game against St. Martins was a much closer affair with both teams exhibiting some outstanding football. The Shels defended very well with Simon Donohoe, Eoghan Fitzgerald, Eoin O Leary, Conor Forde, James Cash and Mark Mythen stopping the St. Martins attacks. With the assistance of the wind the Shels lead by 0-4 to 0-0 at half time with Stephen McGuire (3) and James Cash on the mark for the home team. St Martins scored a single point with the assistance of the wind with the Shels holding tight to record their second victory in the competition. In their third match against Crossabeg/Ballymurn the Shels boys over powered their near neighbours by 2-2 to 0-1.

The final and decisive match was against the Starlights which the Shels boys needing to avoid defeat, whilst the Enniscorthy boys needed a victory to go through to the semi final. Playing against a stiff breeze in the first half the black and amber boys played great team football, but they found the going tough against a physically stronger Enniscorthy side. Trailing by 0-6 to 0-1 at half time the Shels boys had it all to do in the second half and try as they did they could not stop the Starlights progressing to the semi finals.
