Both the minor A and B minor football teams were in action on Saturday last in their respective county semi finals in New Ross. In very poor weather conditions the A team took on Adamstown and were slow to get into the game allowing Adamstown to take an early lead. Points from Conor Walsh and Joe Kelly restored parity before Adamstown forged ahead to leave a half time score of 0-5 to 0-2. The Shelmaliers were always chasing the game in the second half against a very strong Adamstown side. Eoin Doyle scored four points for the Shelmaliers in the second half, with his side going down by 1-11 to 0-6 on the final whistle.
The B team were next in action and they started with a flourish leading by 3-3 to 2-5 at half time against a strong Cloughbawn side. Eoin McMahon 2-2 and Shane O Connor 1-1 were the Shels scorers in the first half. Cloughbawn came more into the game in the second half and the young Shels side found the going much tougher in this half. Ronan Kavanagh made some great saves in this half together with the fine work of Brian Tobin, Conor Hynes, Keith Kehoe, Shane O Connor and three goal sharpshooter Eoin McMahon, couldn’t stop the Enniscorthy side claiming victory by 4-3 to 4-8.
