Shelmalier footballers draw with Bannow.

Draw fails to decide placings in championship.

Date: Friday 7th september                           Venue:  Taghmon                                Opponents:Bannow-Ballymitty
Competition:Junior C Football Championship – last group game                                       Full time score: (Shels)  1-10            (Opp.)  1-10

With both teams already qualified for the county semi-final, this game was to decide who would top the group.
Bannow opened the scoring with two good points. They were very dominant at mid-field and seemed to have very good combined play. Stephen Cash got the Shels in action after a good pointed free and then the Shels started to play. Apart from mid-field, the Shels seemed to be more dominant throughout the field but were missing vital points. Then Adrian Veale struck for 1-1 and the Shels were in control. However, just before half time Bannow scored a great goal by their left wing back and they were right back in the game. Half time score Shels 1-5, Bannow 1-4.

In the second half the Shels seemed to have sorted their mid-field problems and looked to be on course for a good victory. However, Bannow upped their work rate considerably which led to the second half being point for point all through. In the end, a draw was the fairest result and the top position will now have to be decided by score difference over all the group matches of the championship to date.
