Junior hurlers reach county final.

Shelmalier junior hurlers overcome Glynn Barntown.

The Shelmalier Junior hurling team qualified for final of the junior championship with a crushing 5-11 to 3-5 victory over Glynn Barntown played in Oylegate on Saturday last. The Barntown team failed to stay with the youthful Shels side that led from the start and were never under pressure after the two early goals from Joe Kelly (2min and 10 min.). The full forward line was putting Glynn under severe pressure and goals were added by Chris Wall 17 min and Conor Byrne just before half time. The Shelmaliers had points in the first half from Chris Wall two from frees and two from Conor Byrne and with Conor Walsh adding a point went in to interval with a comfortable 4-5 to 2-1 lead.  The Shelmalier scorers in the first half were, Chris Wall 1-2. J.Kelly 2-0, C.Byrne 1-2 and Conor Walsh 0-1
Glynn started the second half aided by the strong wind and scored first with a point. However, whatever chance they had was finished when Chris Wall scored his second goal and Shels fifth. Glynn tried vainly to reduce the lead but had no answer to the crisp hurling and point taking of their younger opponents The rest of the game was played out with the Shels keeping their lead intact with points from Chris Wall three and Joe Kelly two and now must go in to final seeking to make up for disappointment of failing to Ferns in last years final. The winner’s full forward line contributed 5-8 all but three points of the final score. Shels scorers in second half were C. Wall 1-3, Joe Kelly 0-2, Conor Walsh 0-1 and Cahal Gaul 0-1.
Good Performances from the Shelmalier team on the day were, Joe Kelly, Conor Byrne, Chris Wall, Colm Carr, Craig Potter, Jamie Horan and Emmett O Leary.
