It Just wasn’t to be

Unfortunatley it wasn't to be…….

The Wexford Ladies Football Team were defeated by Leitrim on Sunday last in the All Ireland Intermediate Final in Croke Park on a score Line of 17 points to 1-10.

No fewer than 14 Shelmalier Ladies footballers donned the Purple and Gold Jersey in search of that illustrious medal.

While Wexford got off to the better start it was Leitrim who clawed back the 4 point advantage and never looked back. Kate Kelly scored the only goal of the game on 34 mins, But Wexford Failed to capitalise on this.  Wexford to their credit worked extremely  hard and never gave up hope indeed with 4 points in it the Leitrm keeper was forced to pull off a point blank save From Leona Tector. this would have left the minimum between the teams and who knows …..

Mag Kelly, Leona Tector,Michelle Doyle were the half back line, Deirdre Fox lined Out at midfield while Kate kelly and Michelle Hearne were the two corner forwards.Niki Scallan entered the fray in the first half and Bridget Curran was introduced  mid way through the Second half. Other Panel Members included Maeve Quill, Kim & Tara Maloney,Deirdre McMahon, Catherine Doyle & Laura Corrigan.

Pat Quill was involved as selector with Joe Fox as statatician.

All of the girls can hold there heads up high as it was a fantastic achievement to reach the All Ireland. There is such heart and commitment from these girls that they will be back again next year to try to achieve their Goal. Your Club is very proud of you  all and all your achievments.

 Follow me who dares.
