They had been very unlucky not to beat St. James in the first round when they drew with them scoring 2-3 a piece after St. James scored an equalising point in the last few minutes. The Shelmalier girls eagerly awaited their chance to meet and hopefully defeat them on home ground.
The girls began this match with great determination winning the ball from the first throw in with Gemma McCabe converting it to a score straight away. They continued to take advantage of all scoring opportunities presented to them while St. James failed to score for the first half finding it very hard to get the ball past the strong Shelmalier half-back line of Ali Murphy, Clíodhna Flynn and Ciara Corrigan.
Half time score: Shelmalier 4-10 St. James 0-0
Having made a number of substitutions the Shelmalier girls began the second half with the same determination as they had shown earlier and it wasn’t long before Chloe Thomas had added another goal to the Shelmalier score line. St. James fought hard and might have scored more had it not been for the great defending by full back Róisin Tobin and goalie Dervla Potter.
Shelmalier next meet Kilmore and hope to continue their winning success !
