Great second performance by Shels Intermediate footballers.
Shelmaliers Intermediate footballers travelled to Kilmore last Monday night 7th Aug to play their second round in the Intermediate football championship and despite a slow start they slowly but surely ploughed away against a determined Glynn Barntown team.
The half time score was close at 0-6 to 0-5 in favour of the Shels.
But playing with the wind, Shelmaliers came out for the second half with all guns blazing and methodically destroyed Glynn till the final whistle. Aidan Murphy who had been delayed travelling to the game, was introduced at half time and with other players slotting into their more usual positions, the game took on a new lease of life. With Graham Power and Stephen Banville scoring a goal each for the Shels, there was no road back for the Glynn side.
The final score was 2-13 to 0-7.
The referee is to be credited with letting the game run smoothly and keeping it well under control as both teams were fired up and intending to win through.
On a day when the whole team were on top form just a few that could be mentioned were David Shiggins in goal who performed superbly, in the backs Cathal Gaule, Marc & David Walsh and Tommy Barron, mid fielder Brian Malone had an outstanding game, and with all forwards scoring, Alan Griffith, Derek Walsh, Cormac Smyth, Terry Gainfort did well in attack.
