The Shelmaliers played with a strong wind in the first half and dominated matters from the start. In the first ten minutes Stephen Banville, Derek Walsh (free), Tommy Barron and Clive Lawlor had scored a point each. The game was lack-lustre and it was very stop start with many black books and yellow cards being shown to both sides. The game became very scrappy with the Shels wasting many good scoring chances. However, with St. Fintans still failing to register a score, Shels upped their game for the last ten minutes of this half with 0-2 from T. Gainfort (0-1 free), 0-1 from Graham Power and 1-0 from Derek Walsh before being replaced through injury. The half time score was: Shels 1-8 Opponents: 0-0.
The second half had a better flow to it and the Shels were totally dominant. With Shels controlling vital areas, the forwards got plenty of supply. Stephen Banville scored 1-2 and with further goals from Terry Gainfort, Brian Malone and Chris Gordon the game was over as a contest. St. Fintans only managed to score 0-3 with one excellent effort from the right wing late in the game. However, their goalie brought off some fine saves and saved at least four goals in the second half. Full time score: Shels 5-14 Opponents: 0-3
