Shelmaliers overcome Rathnure.
Shelmaliers took the long trek to Rathnure last Monday night to take on Rathnure in the u16 Championship. In wet and slippery conditions and amidst thunderstorms, the over the water men emerged victors.
Rathnure opened the scoring but Ronan Kavanagh replied with a goal after five minutes, after some fine team work by the half forward line. Three further points from Rathnure and two more from Shels men, Brian Doyle and Brian Tobin (F), left the half time score at 1-2 to 0-5
With the conditions worsening Benny Barron put over two frees and Aidan Cash added a fine point from the sideline, before Brian Tobin put the game further away from Rathnure with a blistering goal.
Alan Rossiter and Brian Tobin completed the scoring adding a point each, with Rathnure only scoring four points in second half to leave the final score 2-7 to 0-9
