Improved second half display prove vital in Shels win.

This second round match was very important as the winners would qualify for the county quarter final. Glynn-Barntown started with a two man full forward line and took full advantage of the extra space by scoring the first two points of the game within the first five minutes. The Shels then dominated the game for the next 15 minutes scoring 0-6 while keeping the opposition scoreless. However, Glynn-Barntown finished the half the stronger by scoring 0-3, 0-2 from frees by Sean Carmody, to leave the half time score at 0-6 Shels to 0-5 Glynn-Barntown. Shels scorers in the first half were: Derek Walsh 0-2, Terry Gainfort 0-1 (free), Brian Malone 0-1, Graham Power 0-1 and Cormac Smith 0-1.
The game was still very close for the first nine minutes of the second half with some tough exchanges and 0-2 scored by each team. But this was the last time Glynn-Barntown were to score for this game while the Shels continued to score 0-4 between the 40th and 50th minute of the game. In the 53rd minute Graham Power got in for the Shels first goal after good work by Stephen Banville and Derek Walsh. This was the clinching score as it put the Shels 7 points in front and after this the Glynn-Barntown effort fizzled out. The Shels totally dominated the last 7 minutes scoring a further 1-2 before the finish. Full time Score: Shels 2-13 Opponents: 0-7
