{moszoomthumb imgid=27 itemid=61 style_m=2}Wexford win the final of the Willie O Leary Cup.

The finals of the annual Willie O Leary Cup National Schools hurling tournament took place in Castlebridge National School on Thursday last with a large attendance of parents, supporters, pupils and teachers. Boys and girls from fourth class and younger took part in the tournament, with four teams competing. Each of the four teams was superbly managed by some of the club's younger players, namely Conor Tobin, Glen Murphy, AJ Lehane and Stephen Dwyer, with Shane Griffith doing a great job refereeing all the games.

The afternoon kicked off with Waterford taking on Cork, with the Waterford team of Glen Malone, Jack Donohoe, Cian Manley, Shane Doyle, Gemma Fox, Daniel Campbell, Brian Monahan and Tomas Hall getting the better of a very strong Cork team of Daniel Murphy, Jody Donohoe, Steven Rossiter, Aaron O Neill, Katie Lacey, Billy McCarthy, Paul McCleane, Nick Whelan, Nathan Murphy and Caoimhe Kennealy by a score line of 4-2 to 2-1. Glen Malone, Shane Doyle, Jack Donohoe, and Dan Campbell were on the mark for Waterford with Katie Lacey and Jodie Donohoe replying for Cork. The second match saw a strong Wexford team of Michael Feeney, Brian Kehoe, Conor Hearne, Enda Cloake, James Boland, Kevin Harte, Shane Neville and John Walker overcome a determined Kilkenny side of  Aaron Murphy, Dylan Potter, Aaron Parker, Tom Matthews, Liam Rockett, Gareth Jones, Craig Parker, Chloe Mahon and Maeve Doyle, by 5-2 to 1-0.

In the shield final, a very entertaining and close contest, Cork won out by a narrow margin. The Cup final saw Wexford take on Waterford in an outstanding game of hurling, the outcome of which was in doubt till the very end. In the end, the purple and gold prevailed by 2-1 to 1-1 with John Walker and Michael Feeney on the mark for Wexford and Jack Donohoe and Glen Murphy replying for Waterford. Our thanks go to all the parents and supporters who attended the tournament, to Castlebridge National School for hosting the competition and for all those in the club who helped organize the day's events.
