Shelmalier Ladies Gaelic Football Club was formed in 1977. At present the club enters teams in the Under 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, Junior and Senior grades of football as well as Under 11 Community Games.
To date the club has won 37 Underage and 29 Adult County titles as well as 4 Leinster and 1 All Ireland Under 14, 1 All Ireland 7 A Shield Side and 2 All Ireland Senior championships. We were
runners up in the All Ireland senior 7 A Side championship for the last three years, as well as being runners up in the All Ireland 7 A Side Shield competition. In addition to these, the
Club was runners up in the Leinster Championship on 5 occasions and runners up in the All Ireland senior club final and the All Ireland Feile.
The club has provided numerous players to the county teams in all grades of competition with six of the girls being captain of successful Wexford teams in All Ireland finals.
The New York Under 14 girls team played Shelmalier in their first game in Irish soil in June 2006 as part of the New York girls preparation for the All Ireland Feile in Wicklow.
Sandra Carr won the All Ireland Feile Skills Competition in McHale Pk Castlebar in 1995.
Several of the girls have played for Leinster, and won Interprovincial honours.
Several players have won All Star awards. This honour is awarded to the elite in the sport. Theresa Furlong, Ann, Edel and Assumpta Cullen, Anne White, Angie Hearne, Marie Thorpe, Siobhan
Dunne, Christine Harding, Mary Rice and Leona Tector.
The following players have been honoured with Replacement All Star Awards : Marguerite Murphy, Aine Murphy, Aideen Gordon, Michelle Stafford, Leona Tector, Michelle Hearne and Nikki Scallan.
The club has also played a big role in the administration side of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association at County Board, Leinster and National level. The position of National President was held
by two club members Pat Quill from 1985 to 1988 and Peter Rice from 1991 to 1994.
