Second half performance overcomes the Rapps

The Shelmalier junior hurling team finished their matches in the league group stages unbeaten.

The Shelmalier junior hurling team finished their matches in the group stage unbeaten following a great win over a fancied Rapparees side in Bellefield on Sunday evening last. The first half was played in a downpour and a very young Shelmalier team were unlucky to go in behind after conceding an easy goal before half time. The half time score was Shelmalier 0-5 Raparees 2-4, with Chris Wall and Joe Kelly on the scoreboard for the black and amber.
The Shelmaliers completely dominated the second half of the game and drew level after 13 minutes with a point from a 65 by Chris Wall and from there onwards they held the lead for the remainder of the match.  Chris Wall put the Shels a goal ahead when he finished off a delivery from Ciarian O Shaughnessy after rounding the full back. The Shelmaliers played their best hurling at this stage and ran out easy winners with Alan Griffith adding another goal, Joe Kelly 2 points ,Tommie Barron and Chris Wall 1 point each. The team now goes forward to contest the final. Second half scores for the Shelmaliers were Alan Griffith 1-1, C. Wall 1-3, T. Barron 0-2, Joe. Kelly 0-2 and Shane Murphy 0-1. Good Performances for Shelmaliers were from Chris Wall,  Arron Watters,  Jimmer Doyle,  Alan Griffith and Darren Malone.
