U14 Hurling Championship V Gorey Wed. 02 May 2007. Venue: Gorey.

Shels travelled to Gorey to take on a highly-fancied Naomh Éanna team who already had a couple of impressive results under their belt.
First Half: Shelmaliers elected to play with the wind and started brightly with a well-taken score from Shane Bierney.  The remainder of the first half was keenly contested, although there were ominous signs that Gorey might dominate on the turnover, as the Shels boys were having difficulty imposing themselves on a well-drilled north-county outfit. However the Shels went into the half-time break two points to the good, with Neil Rossiter and Simon Murphy showing well in the forwards, and Dean Corrigan in fine form at the back.
Second half:The second half saw a dramatic decline in Shelmalier fortunes as Gorey simply rolled over us to record a comprehensive victory. While nothing went right for the boys in black and amber, it has to be said that on the night we were no match for a very skilful Gorey team. Our backs came under enormous pressure and full credit must be given to goalkeeper Seán Byrne aand to Pádraic O’ Leary and Dean Corrigan and full-back and centre-back respectively, who were defiant to the end. However we struggled in all other positions. We look forward to meeting Gorey later in the championship to put the record straight.
