Harriers too strong in Feile final.

The Shels boys struggled to cope with the greater physical strength of the town men and it seemed that the occasion and the venue may have affected our boys as very few of them played to their potential.

Féile Final   V Harriers Sat. 05 May 2007. Venue: Wexford Park.

First Half: The Harriers got off to whirlwind start and were five points to the good before the Shelmaliers realised the game was on. From the off the Shels boys struggled to cope with the greater physical strength of the town men and it seemed that the occasion and the venue may have affected our boys as very few of them played to their potential. By half-time we trailed by eight points on a 2-5 to 1-0 scoreline having played with the wind, Shane Bierney having scored a smashing goal just before the break.
Second half: The Harriers increased their stranglehold on the game with a couple of early scores and it became quickly obvious that there was only ever going to be one winner. However, to their credit ,the Shels boys fought to the bitter end and never lay down. Seán Byrne in the goal was sound under pressure while Pádraic O’ Leary was heroic at full-back. Up front Shane Bierney was a shining light and never stopped carrying the game to the opposition. After the long whistle had blown our boys were very sporting in applauding the victors and wishing them well in the national féile.
