Hollymount was packed on Saturday evening last, 21st April for the eagerly awaited Senior Hurling League match between the local team and Oulart the Ballagh with the final score going in favour of the visitors by 1-13 to 0-8.

In a low scoring first half the Shelmaliers were unlucky to go in at half time 3 points in arrears after missing some easy frees and having Ibar Murphy dismissed after 10 minutes for a second yellow card. Tommy Barron and Colm Kehoe were the scorers for the Shels in this half. The home defence played with great determination in the second half and was unlucky to concede a goal after 10 minutes when a ball deflected off a hurley against the run of play. They also missed two great goal chances when one ball hit the post and another was saved for a 65. Second half scorers for the Shels were Chris McGrath 0-4 and David Walsh 0-1. Clive Lawler, David Cloney, Colin Kehoe and David Walsh.
The Junior Hurlers played Our Ladys Island on Sunday last in Our Ladys Island and came away with a draw 2-9 to 3-6 after an entertaining game.
The appointed referee failed to turn up and Shels agreed to play under local ref. The Shels conceded two early goals but with wind advantage they finished the first half trailing by only 2-5 to 1-4. Their scorers in first half were C.Potter 0-2, B.Murphy 1-0 and C.Wall 0-2. The black and amber dominated the 2nd half of match but failed to put their superiority on the score board and with game in injury time and the Shels leading by one point Our Ladys Island grabbed late equalizing point. The scorers for the Shelmaliers in the second half were C.Potter 0-1, T.Barron 1-1, G.Power0-1, F.Parker 0-1 and C.Wall 0-1. David Cloney, Graham Power. Alan Griffith and Tommie Barron performed very well for the Shelmaliers.
The minor B footballers had a comfortable 8-5 to 0-4 victory over St Patrick’s on Sunday last played in Camolin. The Shels dominated the game from start to finish with each and every player giving every effort. The scorers for the Shels were John McGuire 2-0, Alan Rossiter 2-0, Paraic Scully 2-1, Liam Donnelly 0-3, David Ryan 0-1 and Shane O Connor 2-0.
The Jim Byrne winning minor football team visited London over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and after an enjoyable and exhausting weekend the team and mentors returned home on bank holiday Monday. During their stay the team went on a guided tour of the city and played the London Minor footballers in a match which they easily won. They were warmly welcomed by the Father Murphy’s club which has Curracloe gael David Donohoe at the helm. The team and mentors would like to thank the Fr. Murphy’s club and in particular David Donohoe, Pat Doyle and Phil Roche. The team and mentors would also like to thank the parents, the sponsors and all the people who supported the various fund raising events which made this trip possible.
