This was a very difficult assignment for our boys, following hot on the heels on the heavy defeat against the same opposition in the Féile final on the previous Saturday. However they gave a heart-warming performance full of guts and bravery and no little skill to run the townsmen to two points in a very exciting game that we could, with a little luck, have won.
U14 Hurling Championship V Harriers Wed. 09 May 2007. Venue: Hollymount
This was a very difficult assignment for our boys, following hot on the heels of the heavy defeat against the same opposition in the Féile final on the previous Saturday. However they gave a heart-warming performance full of guts and bravery and no little skill to run the townsmen to two points in a very exciting game that we could, with a little luck, have won.
First half:When the Harriers opened the scoring with a goal, the attendance could have been forgiven for expecting a re-run of the whitewash of the previous Saturday. However, the Shels boys soon showed their mettle and a well-taken individual goal from Dean Corrigan laid down a marker and the Harriers knew they were in a game. Three tremendous long-range points from placed balls from Conor Tobin left us trailing by a goal at half-time on a 3-0 to 1-3 scoreline.
Second half:The Shels dominated the second half. Pádraic O’ Leary excelled at full-back while Conor Tobin was outstanding at centre-back. Dean Corrigan and Craig McCabe drove us on from midfield, while Shane Bierney and Glen Murphy were forceful upfront. Goals from Craig McCabe and the opportunistic Neil Rossiter left the issue in doubt until the end. Final score Harriers:4-2 ; Shels: 3-3.
