The Shelmaliers continued on their winning way with a comprehensive win over the Rapparees on Sunday last in Hollymount.

The Shelmaliers continued on their winning way with a comprehensive win over the Rapparees on Sunday last in Hollymount.  Playing with the wind in the first half, Shels got off to a flying start in the first two minutes with a point from Benny Barron, swiftly followed by a goal from Ronan Kavanagh after an accurate hand pass from Brian Doyle. Further points came from Benny Barron and Brian Doyle before Ronan Kavanagh added a second goal to the tally. Points followed swiftly from Johnny Campbell (2) Feargal Hynes (1) and Benny Barron (3) 2 F.  Brian Doyle added another point before Rapparees answered back with a point, their only score of the first half. Benny Barron added three more points before the half time whistle for the score to read 2-13 to 0-1.

On the re-start Brian Murphy came on for the unwell Brian Doyle. Playing against the wind, the game steadied up considerably with the Rapparees registering first on the scoreboard with a point. Benny Barron, Sean Walsh and Brian Murphy all added to the score with points before Rapparees got the last point of the match to end the score at 2-16 0-3 to the Shels.

Like the last three games, Shels were dominant in all areas. The backs were rarely called on but were strong when needed. Midfield was outstanding and all the forwards were totally in the game and committed.
Benny Barron was on fire for the entire game, and others to shine were Brian Tobin, Feargal Hynes, Brian Doyle and Kevin O’Leary.
